Szókincsben azért nem voltam elmaradva, lévén, hogy frissen nyelvvizsgáztam, de ebben minden egyes oldalon volt mindig egy új szó. Egy idő után már unalmassá vált az, hogy többször volt a kezemben a szótár, mint az olvasmány. Majd valamikor máskor még nekirugaszkodok.

Sztem csak kitartás kérdése, az első 20 - 30 oldal után beleszokik az ember a nyelvezetébe.

Egyszer elkövettem a hibát hogy Edgar Allan Poe-t akartam olvasni természetesen angolul. . . háááát a nagyja elég ó angol szerű volt, arra meg szótár sincs.

Én is.  Ha nem vagyok fáradt, csak simán „befényképezem” a sorokat aztán lesz belőle valami.

Lehet majd így kéne nekifutnom megint. Zavart valahol az, hogyha csak egy láncszem is hiányzik a megértésből, később ezek felhalmozódhatnak, de még egy próbát megér, hátha jobban megy mostmár így egy év elmúltával.

Akkor aki kíváncsi, annak elmondom, hogy mind a "Shotgun", mind a "No bitch" kifelyezés a vadnyugatból maradt meg, és mindkettőnek eredetileg a lovaskocsikhoz volt köze. A Shotgun-os a hajtó mellett ült, és az esetleges veszélyeket hárította el, míg a másik kifejezés a szekér hátuljára utal. Midkettő adaptálva lett a modern autókra, így pontosan azt jelentik, hogy:

Shotgun! - Én akarok az anyósülésen ülni!
No bitch - Nem akarok hátul középen ülni!

Ezt csak az Amerikából tanítani ide jött angoltanár tudta. Eredetileg csak a "Shotgun"-ra kérdeztem rá, aki emlékszik ez a kifejezés előfordul a Half Life 2 - Episode 2-ben, és nem tudtam hova tenni, úgyhogy rákérdeztem. A másikat csak grátisz mondta el.

I have a guess why did they said the right side seat as the "Shotgun" side if I may say it in this way. One of my relative told me a fact about English transport roads through forests or anywhere they used to be travelling at the left side of the road and had their driver seats at the right side as well as at our days in Great Brittain. They explained this reason by if they would get attacked from the right side by a raider or any offensive opponent, the driver could return the attack easily by his right arm with a sword.

I can imagine that this could be forming itself too to the western self defense system at the carts but since it's the western world at the 18-19th century, and with ballistic guns it could be done the same way so with Winchesters and Revolvers I can imagine it this way. But I think attacks can be done from every side and even by an ambush, I'm not sure, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Shotgun is not a verb in the English language. I have never heard the word shotgun used as a verb. The correct use of it to describe the above is "to ride shotgun". The sword thing is correct - that is why we drive on the left hand side - the right arm is usually the strongest so you want to pass people on that side as if they are a threat, you are more likely to successfully duel with them. Don't know about the shotgun paragraph at the end. Could be right.

It is not a verb, but it is used as an interjection: "Shotgun!" when you want to ride in that seat. The first person to say it gets it.

Many years ago, you could either sit inside the vehicle (like a covered wagon) or on the outside, next to the driver. If you were outside, you would be holding the shotgun, so that the driver did not have to. The precise side does not matter, it is just not the side that the driver is on.
